SCRIPT PRODUCTION GRANT 2026

SEASON 1 (SUBMISSIONS CLOSED)

"Unearthing raw talent from the roots; shaping the filmmakers of tomorrow."

1. Overview & Purpose

The School of Film and Cinema Studies is proud to introduce the Script-to-Screen Grant. Our mission is built on unearthing raw talent from the roots and shaping the storytellers of tomorrow. This initiative offers passionate, aspiring filmmakers a rare path to transform their written word into a high-production short film, fully engineered and backed by our academy's professional network, high-end equipment, and student crew rosters.

2. Eligibility Criteria & Submission Fees

• Submission Fee: Entry to this contest is strictly free. No entry or application handling fees are charged.

• Open Demographics: Open to all independent filmmakers, screenwriters, and creative minds globally. Applicants do not need to be currently enrolled students, but must meet general eligibility parameters for future program enrollment.

• Age Requirements: Applicants must be 18 years of age or older by the close of the submission deadline window. Applicants under 18 may apply with formal written parental or legal guardian consent.

3. Script Format & Technical Specifications:

All submitted scripts must strictly observe professional standards to pass initial vetting:

• Length & Layout: Scripts must range strictly between 5 to 10 pages in length (excluding the standard title cover page).

• Typography & Format: Submissions must be exported in PDF format, set up in industry-standard screenplay format (Courier 12pt font, proper margins, character names, and sluglines). Free software such as WriterDuet, StudioBinder, or Celtx is highly recommended.

• Language & Authenticity: Scripts must be delivered in English. Every element must be an entirely original work owned completely by the applying party. Adapting copyrighted intellectual property (novels, mainstream comic books, preexisting commercial characters) will invoke immediate disqualification.

4. Practical Production Feasibility Constraints

Because the School of Film and Cinema Studies is fully financing, staffing, and organizing the physical production of the winning work, scripts must balance creative ambition with realistic logistical constraints. Submissions incorporating any of the following elements will be flagged or excluded during the selection phase:

• Special Effects: Heavy reliance on complex computer-generated imagery (CGI), intense green-screen setups, or intricate visual effects (VFX).

• Period Pieces: Historical settings requiring antique vehicles, specialized vintage wardrobe lines, or specific architectural eras difficult to replicate locally.

• Location Limits: Scripts should be structured dynamically within 1 to 3 accessible locations maximum (e.g., apartments, typical modern business fronts, public parks).

• Safety Concerns: High-risk stunt choreography, functional weapons, or dangerous tactical action arrays. The final decision rests solely with the School of Film and Cinema Studies. We reserve the right to modify, pause, or cancel the grant program at any stage of the process.

5. Grant Benefits & Production Terms

• The Grand Prize Selection: The selected script will be greenlit into physical film production.

• Resources Allotted: The school provides cinema equipment kits (cameras, grip/electric arrays, field sound rigs), assigned student crews across key structural roles, and full post-production handling ( editing suites, DI color correction, sound design workflows).

• Professional Credits: The winner receives formal 'Written By' or 'Story By' credentials on the complete project. If the winner resides within practical traveling distance and exhibits verified directorial capacity, they may pitch to direct alongside an assigned technical student co-director.

• Distribution & Showcasing: The final cinematic cut will debut officially at our annual School Film Showcase Festival and serve as an elite marketing and portfolio calling card for both the writer and the academy.

6. Intellectual Property & Rights Management

Writers retain 100% intellectual property ownership over their original literary screenplay script. However, by participating in this grant process, the selected winner formally licenses the School of Film and Cinema Studies an exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right to film, modify, produce, exhibit, screen, distribute, and utilize the resulting physical audio-visual film project for educational, promotional, and festival-focused activities. Ideally Screenplay must be registered with SWA.

7. Important Target Dates & Deadlines

• Submissions Platform Window Opens: 1 JULY 2026
• Official Submission Cut-off Deadline:  11 AUGUST 2026

Results-  Late September- October 2026
